Sights and Banksy at the Bristol Anarchist BookfairJuxtapoz // Monday, 09 May 2011
As we noted last week, Banksy was to release a poster at this past weekend's Bristol Anarchist Bookfair, with the subject matter being about the recent Tesco riots in Bristol. Our England correspondent, Butterfly, headed to Bristol to check out the commemorative souvenir poster and the sights.
Butterfly noted to us "I attended the Bristol Anarchist Book Fair this week end, where Banksy was releasing his petrol bomb poster in response to the recent Tesco Riots. Disturbances broke out in Stokes Croft in April after police raided a squat over fears that a newly-opened Tesco would be petrol bombed.
"Hundreds of people from all came all over from the UK and waited patienly under the rain. Despite the huge turn out, the event was peaceful and well organised. 2000 posters for £5 each were sold with the proceeds going to the Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft and associates.
"The original Tesco Petrol Bomb was on show together with older prints from POW.
"The Bristol Anarchist Book Fair provided additional entertainment, with creative outlets and improvised dance sessions."
Butterfly also noted to us that Banksy's Wild West Mural done at the Anarchist Book Fair several years ago strangely echoes the recent Tesco riots. See it below.
