"Sasha Grey" by Richard Phillips for Venice Biennale 2011

Juxtapoz // Thursday, 02 Jun 2011

Richard Phillips has a trend buidling. First a "Lindsay Lohan" short film,  now "Sasha Grey." This, along with Phillip’s first short film, “Lindsay Lohan,” will be included in "Commercial Break," presented by the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Venice, Italy, June 1 - 5, 2011, concurrent with the 54th international exhibition of the Venice Biennale.

One of the more breathtaking parts of this whole film is the location: the John Lautner Chemosphere House off Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles. Phillips captures some amazing visuals of the entire house and views from above looking down on San Fernando Valley (home of the porn industry, hence Sasha Grey).

As Phillips mentions, “For my film portrait of Sasha Grey, I wanted to focus on her expressive and psychological transformation into a cinematic actor, separate from the cues that have associated Sasha with her previous career as a performance artist working within the adult film world.”
