Ryan McGinness "Women: The Blacklight Paintings" at The Standard Hollywood
Juxtapoz // Tuesday, 17 May 2011Just as we wrote about Ryan McGinness' show at Country Club LA coming this week, we note that NYC-based McGinness will also be opening a new show at the Standard, Hollywood, titled Women: The Blacklight Paintings. The paintings are based on figure drawings of over 65 models completed during sittings with the artist over the past year.
McGinness says of the Blacklight work, “These drawings are my version of what is sexy. Yes, the women are sexy, but moreover, the drawings are sexier—beautiful, stark, and perfectly composed according to my eye. I am more attracted to these drawings than I am to the women who make them possible.”
As you might remember, McGinness introduced the Blacklight works at Art Basel 2010. The show at The Standard is being put on by Country Club LA.
