Rafael de Cárdenas does Pop-Up for OHWOW at Cappellini NYC

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, 23 Nov 2010

This is going to be a good one. Architect and designer Rafael de Cárdenas will be opening a pop-up show/gallery with OHWOW at Cappellini on Wooster Street in Manhattan. Cárdenas will transform the candy cane and gift wrap inspiration into "a contemporary and exciting venue for customers." Basically, Cappellini will be a good place to spend some holiday in the city time. And its open right now.

Cappelini makes really interesting home furnishings, including some of the best chairs in the world. And they are Italian, so you know they are making the good stuff.

We like projects like this, combining 3 different entities for an interesting result that is both artistic and unique. People should go check it out.

Here is the info we have received from OHWOW:

The design of the temporary pocket-sized structure alludes to a cellophane-wrapped present. Customers are immersed in a kaleidoscope of brightly-colored, crisscrossing translucent bands, giving them the sensation of being inside an oversized gift. Chairs from the Cappellini collection are also wrapped in colorful materials and serve as pedestals for OHWOW publications from Ari Marcopoulos, Hanna Liden, Neck Face, and Rosson Crow, among others.

Contemporary artists, among them Terrence Koh, Jim Drain, and Scott Campbell, have been commissioned to create unique hand-painted holiday ornaments, which will be on display and for sale on triangular towers outside the pop-up.

The OHWOW Cappellini pop-up shop will be unveiled on November 19th and will remain open throughout January 2011.
