This Saturday, Ever Gold Gallery kicks off their Fall season with Mark Benson's "Get the Flu", an installation consisting of sculptures made of space heaters and air conditioner units. The gallery will be divided into three sections, one cold, one hot, and a nurses station in their back room, where if you make a reservation you can get a Flu Shot from a registered nurse (it's a real flu shot) and receive a corresponding editioned certificate.

The only thing that comes to mind that has ever been similar to this is Yves Klein's "La spécialisation de la sensibilité à l’état matière première en sensibilité picturale stabilisée, Le Vide(The Specialization of Sensibility in the Raw Material State into Stabilized Pictorial Sensibility, The Void)" where as part of the 1958 exhibition Mr. Klein served blue martins (after his International Klein Blue (IKB)). The next day the gallery goers all peed blue. But this time, the gallery goers that are brave enough to partake in Bensons editioned Flu Shots will carry the art in their blood for a few months and as as the ever ongoing argument around Flu Shots goes, make you healthy or make you sick. Make your reservations through the gallery for the Flu Shot ($50). And either way, go to the opening reception on Saturday September, 1st and I would recommend wearing shorts or a short dress - because where they are serving beer from - its going to get hot.
