Next Saturday, February 5th, Juxtapoz alumnist Mel Kadel's newest solo show, Arms Out, will open at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. Kadel's trademark "drawing with an eyelash" style will be displayed in conjunction with "abstracted patterns with flora filled landscapes, independent of figures, yet interdependent with the elements."
In July 2008, our Alexander Klein spoke to Mel Kadel about her characters, asking if they were one person or a cast of characters. Mel's response was "I think of it as one. I think of it as an attitude. I don't think of it so much as a feminine stance. I'm a woman and I feel more comfortable drawing women. It's not so much me; it's someone that if I keep bringing up . . . it opens the story more. Let her be the constant and let the story change."
And the story continues . . .
