Preview: Musgrove, Despain, and Heshka

Roq la Rue Gallery in Seattle sent us a preview of three concurrent solo shows opening there this weekend. Scott Musgrove's Late Fauna of North America, Brian Despain's B Side Stories, and Ryan Heshka's Radio Army all open this Friday, November 9th and run through December 1st. All of the artists will be in attendance.

Scott Musgrove is one of the top tier artists of the Pop Surrealism movement. His work focuses on a fictional landscape populated by extinct impossible creatures. Evoking Victoria era "wunderkammer" museum displays, Scott's work is often graced by identifying species nameplates and encased in aged frames. For this show he has a small collection housed in antique union photograph cases, placed in specially built shelf and lucite cases. The contrast between the antique housing and the cartoonish appeal of his pop eyed, squirmy creatures takes the viewer into a fantastical realm while echoing today's issues with rapidly disappearing wildlife from our
