Preview: James Jean's "Rebus" BookJuxtapoz // Wednesday, 29 Jun 2011
One of the more critically acclaimed artists we cover, James Jean (who was also the cover of our December 2010 issue), will have a new, comprehensive monograph released through Chronicle Books, titled Rebus. The title is currently available for pre-order. We have some spreads to show below.
Everyone who has had a chance to check out Rebus in our office has ooohed and awed over the collection; from Jean's illustrations, to his recent body of dreamy oil paintings always seem to capture an audience. The book covers a decade of Jean's work, showing his progression from renowned illustrator to heavily collected fine artist.
Chronicle notes, "Rebus showcases new work as well as important creative milestones—including the eerie dreamscapes of his oil paintings, the elaborate installations and animations he created for Prada in 2008, his gorgeous illustration work, as well as never-before-published pages from his detailed sketchbooks. Page after page, this monumental book reveals new ideas and explorations from an artist whose voice, influence, and vision remain simply unparalleled."
