Portlandia Does Conceptual Art

Don't get us wrong. Conceptual artists are some of our favorites. Sol Lewitt, John Baldessari, Laurence Weiner, Eleanor Antin, among many others have all produced some of the most beautiful, thought-provoking, and enjoyable works we have seen, but there is plenty of conceptual art out there (some of it not quite as obviously fantastic as others). And with its abundance, there is always some funny things to say about what some may consider an "art project". Here the TV series Portlandia did quite a good job at ridiculing the fuzzy boundaries of what is considered art today, slapping museum labels on everything from procreation to stealing a purse. Sometimes, it's good to take a step back and have a laugh at it all.
