Spanish photographer Sebastian Liste's project Urban Quilombo documents his time spent with families living in an abandoned chocolate factory in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. Able to develop close relationships with the familes and find himself in unexpected circumstances, Liste captures some incredible and powerful images. The project was selected for several awards and he is currently exhibiting the photos at La Galerie de l’Institut français
in France.

Via Le Journal de Photographie:

This project is a testament to a place that no longer exists. In 2003, dozens of families came to occupy the Galpa da Araujo Barreto, an abandoned chocolate factory in Salvador de Bahia, in Brazil. The families had previously been living on the city’s dangerous streets. Weary of living among so much violence and despair, they came together to take over this abandoned factory, then in ruins, and turned it into a dwelling space.
