Phenomenal: California Light, Space, Surface @ MCASDJuxtapoz // Thursday, 13 Oct 2011
Currently on exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is Phenomenal: California Light, Space, Surface. The show exhibits a collection of work from Los Angeles based artists in the 1960s and 1970s during a time period when many artists were focused on light and creating various retinal phenomena with sculptures, paintings and installations.
The show exhibits work from Bruce Nauman, Peter Alexander, Larry Bell, Ron Cooper, Mary Corse, Robert Irwin, Craig Kauffman, John McCracken, Eric Orr, Helen Pashgian, James Turrell, De Wain Valentine, and Douglas Wheeler. Bruce Nauman's Green Light Corridor is a piece that I strongly encourage you go and experience if you get a chance. Words cannot quite capture it. You must simply walk down the "green light corridor" and experience it for yourself.
