Peer Pleasure I: PreviewJuxtapoz // Wednesday, 11 Jan 2006
Space 1026 is a collective of artists whom I have watched closely for the past seven years. Artists from this group are comprised of painters, silkscreeners, photographers, zine makers and conceptual artists. In collaboration with Shelley Spector of the Spector Gallery in Philadelphia, these artists have been invited to create an installation at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francicsco. Spending hours, then days with the group, I documented the progress of their work. Artists on hand for the installation were Ted Passon, Becky Suss, Clint Woodside, Courtney Dailey, Max Lawrence, Ben Woodward, Gonzo, Jesse Goldstein, Hanif O'neil, and Jesse Olanday.
Much of the work shown spans the past seven years of 1026, and ranges from cast iron skateboards, handmade musical instruments, one-off paintings and silkscreen propaganda.
I have much respect for this crew. Not only do they work towards profound expression on a guerrilla level, but much of their work can be seen around Philadelphia streets as well as for local commercial projects. Not only does the collective kill it, but they have hosted shows for such heavy hitters as Tim Gough, Matt Lienes, Mark Price, Judith Chaecter, Damien Weinkrantz, Tyler Kline, Barry Mcgee, Roman Hasiuk, Jamie Dillon, Nick Paparone, Gerik Forston, Brian Chippendale, Jim Houser, Andrew Jeffrey Wright, Annette Monnier, Josh Damon, Abbie J. Zudiema, Jake Henry, Thom Lessner, Dalek, Joy Feasley, Paul Enbeck, Christina Batch, Paper Rad, Katie Baldwin, Kyle Sschimdt, Caitlin Perkins, Jake Hanitschak, Isaac Linn, Alex Purdy, Adrienne Manno, Marcel Dzama, Janet Lee, Brian Sokel, Rose, Miriam Singer, Dan Murphy, Roberta Fallon, Libby Rosof, Genevieve Castrea, Carrie Collins, Ryan McGuiness, Dominik Lepore, Shelly Spector, Steve Powers, Shepard Fairey, Cynthia Connely, Ed Templeton, and countless others.
