Pardee's Picks: The Work of Victor Castillo

Juxtapoz // Monday, 22 Oct 2012

What colors should our dreams be? If your response were based upon the paintings of Chilean-born painter Victor Castillo, the answer might be "the colors that don't exist". In reality, I know that answer is an oxymoron, but in regards to Victor's lush and haunting paintings, it makes perfect sense.

Sure, you have seen the color turquoise before, or the color lime green, or vermillion red, but Victor seamlessly creates multiple marriages of color combinations using these familiar colors that, like any true alchemist, create hues that are NEW for your eyes. A new palette that, as I said earlier, doesn't fit in our waking world, but suits our dreams perfectly.
