Paintings by Landon MetzJuxtapoz // Saturday, 15 Dec 2012
Landon Metz' recent paintings from the last year incorporate washy minimalist fields of color, at times apparently brushy, and at others more ordered resembling continents upon a map or other ambiguous forms that border on the recognizable but slip away into the abstraction of the canvas. WIth a consistent white background across the entire body of work, Metz plays with varying gradients, degrees of transparency and opacity, and compositional arrangements. Reoccurring motifs emerge, but each canvas is uniquely its own with the splashy forms seemingly reliant upon chance as well as careful control of the loose medium. The result is a large body of paintings that holds itself within the confines of a particular approach, while exploring a wide array of possibilities in this mode of color field painting.
