Dana Schutz is a New York painter whose work is in many of the prominent collections of North America and Europe. Her paintings recreate, dismember, reconfigure the subject and genre by playfully and humorously manipulating figure and form. Her "face eaters" that are Schutz's own race of people she has invented that literally eat themselves along with her imagined character "Frank" who is the last man on earth to paint as a subject exemplify themes in her paintings that are used as surrogates for commenting on contemporary issues around the artist.
