Opening Photos: Margaret Kilgallen @ Ratio 3 San FranciscoJuxtapoz // Friday, 24 Jun 2011
While most of the Juxtapoz staff was back in NYC last night, a few of the team stayed back and headed to the very special Margaret Kilgallen retrospective, Summer/Selections, at Ratio 3 in San Francisco. It was a packed house, everyone honored to see the late artists breathtaking work.
We say breathtaking because of the impact her simple work has on you. Its stunning, poetic, and feels like it is iconic even if you have never seen a Kilgallen drawing or painting. Most of the work, from what we could tell, were works-on-paper and paintings on canvas, some never before seen.
It was just interesting to walk around, take in the smaller pieces, all the intricate details, the colors chosen, and to really feel like you were in the presence of a true figurehead of what was happening in San Francisco in the 1990s.
Definitely come check out the show in San Francisco if you head here in these early summer months. You won't regret it.
