Opening: Nadav Kander "Yangtze–The Long River" @ Flowers Gallery, NYCJuxtapoz // Tuesday, 23 Oct 2012
Yangtze – The Long River, is the name of the Nadav Kander debut opening exhibition in New York City at Flowers Gallery. This series of photographs are the result of 5 trips to the banks of the Yangtze, the longest river in Asia and the third longest river in the world, from mouth to source over a period of 3 years. Nadav softly captures unique juxtaposed scenarios of birth and destruction in flux of China’s economical growth. This inorganic industrial development its creating an odd relationship between its population, larger than America’s, and dramatically affecting its history and folklore.
Kander says in a statement about this body of work: “China is a nation that appears to be severing its roots by destroying its past. Demolition and construction were everywhere on such a scale that I was unsure if what I was seeing was being built or destroyed, destroyed or built.”
Nadav’s unexpected views and astounding body of work will be on display until November 24, 2012.
