New Bohemia Signs “SignAge” @ San Francisco State University

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, 28 Aug 2013

San Francisco has always been proud of its sign painting tradition, and the city's New Bohemia Signs shop has been keeping that art form alive with their hand-painted custom sign business. San Francisco Sate University and its art gallery will honor New Bohemia by hosting SignAge, a collection of hand-painted signs from the artists at the shop.

Juxtapoz has featured New Bohemia on the site before, as well as current Bohemians and alums Ken Davis and Jeff Canham. Check our visit to New Bohemia Signs a few years back.

From the school:

The Art Gallery is proud to present “SignAge,” a collection of hand painted signage crafted by San Francisco based, New Bohemia Signs. Since 1993 their authentic hand-painted work has transformed storefronts, murals, window displays and banners across the Bay Area. Despite the evolution of digital technology and the advent of vinyl lettering machines, New Bohemia Signs has revitalized a passion for sign painting through tailoring unique, bold, and rare typographies. Now considered a niche trade, it continues to be a recognized and appreciated art form dedicated to design and tangibility.
