Los Angeles-based artist Derek Albeck creates painstaking, time consuming graphite drawings of the many people revolving in and out of his life. When asked the average length of time it takes to complete one of his bigger pieces, Derek estimates that most of the work takes 3 to 6 weeks to finish. The patience required is remarkable, especially when working in gradients.
With a background in printmaking, Derek has recently started experimenting with traditional screen printing techniques, incorporating the use of graphite. He will be showcasing these new works in May at POVevolving Gallery. Here are some photos from a recent visit to Derek's Chinatown studio.
