Murat Palta: Your Favorite Cult Film in Ottoman StyleJuxtapoz // Tuesday, 17 Jul 2012
Turkey-based illustrator Murat Palta has created a good game for you (although we have ruined it by giving you captions). Citing the influence and style of Ottoman era miniature paintings, the artist has created a series of works that take our favorite films of Western cinema and given them that classic look. Kind of in a Wes Anderson Criterion Collection style... (if you have those covers, designed by Wes Anderson's brother, Eric Chase Anderson, you know that he perhaps was influenced by this Ottoman style...)
The artist says of this series, "It all started 2 years ago with an experiment to blend traditional ‘oriental’ (Ottoman) motifs and contemporary ‘western’ cinema. After a positive response to 'Ottoman Star Wars,' I decided to take the theme further, and developed more film posters using the same technique. Combining global with local, traditional with contemporary, and adding a bit of humor made it a fun and rewarding experience for me. According to my marks that I got from the project, the teachers' opinion were the same."
