Mike Ballard Stole Your Coat, and Is Finally Giving It Back (kind of)

After a decade of stealing coats from London clubs and pubs, multimedia artist Mike Ballard seeks redemption by relinquishing his collection back to the public. The stolen merchandise will be hung chronologically and tagged with a diary entry and code.

In his installation this fall, he will reveal over 200 stolen coats, and return them to anyone who can identify where they were lost or their contents.

This exhibition is the culmination of 10 years of thievery and meticulous cataloguing. Whose Coat is that Jacket You're Wearing? navigates themes of authorship, appropriation, readymade and consumerism.

Whose Coatis that Jacket You're Wearing? will be on view at Walker's Tailor in London from October 8-23, 2010.
