Mario Wagner "Cluster 10" at The Outsiders Newcastle

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, 20 Apr 2011

San Francisco-based, German-born retro-futurist collage and illustrator, Mario Wagner, is set to open his first UK solo show, Cluster 10, at Lazarides Gallery's The Outsiders space in Newcastle, England. The show will feature "free-thinking and colourful retro-futurist scenes blighted by contemporary intruders, well-tailored men seemingly up to no good, made all the more intimidating and inhuman by their balaclavas."

We have followed Wagner's career for quite some time, and we have always enjoyed the way he creates a scene: he takes the 1950s and 60s vision of the future, a post-apocalypse science fiction narrative with "Mad Men" characters. As Outsiders describes Wagner's work, "Tomorrow’s world has not been realised, nor was it ever likely to be. A lack of personal jet packs is the least of our concerns."
