Lifetime Achievement Award to be Presented to Robert Williams this Weekend

Juxtapoz // Friday, 08 Oct 2010

Williams is a pioneer of our current art scene and consistently remains vital to the new contemporary art arena. His works, shows and, appearances are highly sought after and attended and there’s no doubt this award is well-deserved.

"My paintings are not designed to entertain you, they are meant to trap you, to hold you before them while you try to rationalize what elements of the picture are making you stand there." -- Robert Williams

The cats at Arrested Motion also shared a funny post on a ‘Robert Williams Roast.’ They write:

“Robert Williams has been an enormous influence on alternative art. That influence is immeasurable. Still, to get a better understanding of the artist who brought the term ‘low brow’ into the fine arts lexicon, Baby Tattooville assembled a roast with a panel of some of the individuals closest to Mr. Williams.

“During the Roast, Williams was subjected to good-natured ridicule by friends Mat Gleason, Van Arno, Anthony Ausgang, COOP, Michael Hussar, Johnny Ryan, Spain and William Stout. Unsurprisingly though, many of the panel’s comments started as funny but quickly turned into positive, reverent remarks of praise and gratitude.”
