Julian Schnabel's "Miral" Trailer

One of the more renowned filmmakers and contemporary artists working today, Julian Schnabel, is set to release his newest film, Miral, in the United States tomorrow (Friday, March 25). The film chronicles Hind Husseini establishing an orphanage in Jerusalem after the 1948 Arab–Israeli War and the establishment of the state of Israel.

The film is based on the semi-autobiographical book of the same name by Rula Jebreal, a Palestinian journalist, and current girlfriend of Schnabel's. The film stars Frieda Pinto (seen above).

Schnabel, known for his well-received films Before Night Falls and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and of course, being a major figure in contemporary art in the alte 1970s and 1980s (with his works collected by MOCA, MoMA, Reina Sofia, and the Whitney, amongst others), is always an artist with an unique vision that deserves attention whenver he has something set for release. As we found both Night Falls and Butterfly to be fanstastic visual films, we look forward to seeing Miral.

And, Schnabel says this could be his last film . . .
