Mikala Dwyer is a Sydney-based artist who's work has "shifted away feminist, post-punk inclinations and toward a focus on the occult" (to quote Artforum). Her interest lies in the exploration of "extra space" with her chosen materials often evoking referential political and social critiques. Use of circles is common in her work as she is interested in organizational aspects of the occult in practices like the use of Tarot cards and palm readings and how these methods often create a void offering "the poetic possibility that just maybe something will appear." Her work is currently on view at the Dublin Art Projects until March 31st and Brisbane's Institute of Modern Art until April 14th.
