James Kudo's Landscapes of the Mind

James Kudo was born in Pereira Barreto, Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1967. In the early 90s a man-made lake built by the local power plant flooded parts of the city. Kudo's paintings are informed by memories of his hometown turned Nouveau Atlantis, intermingling with recollections of other regional changes and processes of urbanization. Free-floating fragments of houses, planes of color and abstracted natural elements convene in striking combinations in Kudo's re-imagined landscapes.

As a separation from Raymond Teitsma's other works, his series of 'Cosmic' illustrations are a raw and sometimes grotesque portrayal of simple renderings. With a basic palette and almost bizarre minimalist approach, Raymond pulls way back on his usual style with these. He graduated with a BFA Illustration , School of Visual Arts, in Utrecht and is currently living and working in The Netherlands.
