Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival starts next week

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, 28 Dec 2010

Get ready, as the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival is set to open on January 5, 2011 in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province of People's Republic of China. What you see above is a light test prior to the Festival opening. If we can do this with snow, why can't we deal with world peace is what we want to know? Seems like we can do anything as humans.

This isn't the only Ice Sculpture Festival in the world, as the Harbin festival is one of the world's four largest ice and snow festivals, along with Japan's Sapporo Snow Festival, Canada's Quebec City Winter Carnival, and Norway's Ski Festival.

The blocks are taken from the frozen surface of the Songhua River.

There are some great pictures of past Harbin Festivals here

Four pictures taken from BoingBoing. They had the best from Christmas Day.
