China-born, Kansas-based artist Hong Chun Zhang has a fascination with hair, whether large format charcoal drawings of hair extending to the floors of a gallery, or her Hairy Object series putting hair in absurd situations. Her work is both well-rendered and fascinating. While some people feel repulsed by a clump of hair, Zhang embraces it.

"For the Hairy Object series, the idea is humor, beauty, and repulsion. To me, long hair not only looks beautiful, but sometimes, it can be quite repulsive in particular settings – such as hair in the hamburger, egg, wineglass, cigarette, toothpaste, and sink. I combine hair and every day objects to evoke different feelings and emotions through a surrealistic approach." –Hong Chun Zhang
