ColArt Americas Inc.’s leading art material brands Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Conté à Paris and Juxtapoz launched the Griffin Art Prize USA contest on June 1, 2014 to further strengthen its support of emerging artists committed to painting and drawing.

Today, more than two months and 385 submissions later, Renée Hile, vice president of marketing for ColArt Americas Inc., comments, “We were very excited that the contest drew such a high caliber of work. When it came to choosing the top three entries, we opted to base our selection of the winner on three criteria - quality, innovation and potential. These are three key brand standards that run throughout Liquitex, Winsor & Newton and Conté à Paris products, and we thought it only fitting that the winning artist’s work reflect a similar ideal. The winner, artist Dean Reynolds (above), now will have the opportunity to work in the studio at the brands’ London headquarters and be surrounded by the finest art materials and resources available. It is a thrilling prospect!”

Having recently completed a Masters of Fine Art in Painting from Arizona State University, Reynolds will participate in a four-week residency at the studio at the ColArt headquarters in London, located in the heart of the global contemporary art market. As part of his prize package, Dean will receive accommodations, a living stipend and access to necessary materials from Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Conté à Paris. A mentor will oversee a number of tutorials with art professionals, visits to exhibitions, galleries and social events for Dean as well. He also will have the opportunity to show his work in an open studio exhibition at the London Headquarters.

In addition to Dean, Beau Stanton and Katie Miller received second and third place recognition in the Griffin Art Prize USA. Beau will receive $1,000 in Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Conté à Paris Artist Materials, and Katie will receive $500 in Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Conté à Paris Artist Materials.

ColArt Americas and Juxtapoz thank everyone who submitted work for this year’s Griffin Art Prize USA.
