Following The Circus by Sven JohneJuxtapoz // Wednesday, 21 Dec 2011
There are those odd lots of land around town where fairs and circuses will come and go, transforming the space entirely. One moment there are carousels and ferris wheels and the week later there is simply a barren dirt patch. When the circus comes to town tents and attractions create a outlandish world of their own, and once its gone the dirt lot echoes the activities of the recent past. German photographer Sven Johne followed the Zirkus Probst for nine months documenting 59 performances directly after the show was over. The resulting photo series Following the Circus captures this tension between presence and absence.
