Ferris Plock as Artist In Residence at Recology San Francisco

Juxtapoz // Thursday, 30 Dec 2010

We got to spend some time with Ferris Plock this past summer, and have started to see his popularity grow and grow, especially here in San Francisco. In a unique bit of news, Ferris has been an Artist In Residence at Recology in San Francisco this past Fall that will culminate in an exhibition on Friday, January 21 & Saturday, January, 22, 2011. What is Recology you might ask?

Recology SF is where we recycle in San Francisco. Better worded, it is our recycle service. Since 1990, they have been doing these unique Artist In Residence programs, having local artists work in a space next to the center, creating art with access to materials from recycling purposes.

Recology writes "Art is created from what would have been sent with the rest of San Francisco's trash to landfills across the Bay or recycling plants across the nation.

The Artist In Residence Program at Recology San Francisco is an innovative program that inspires and educates people about recycling and resource conservation by providing local artists with access to materials, a work space, and other resources at the Recology Solid Waste Transfer and Recycling Center."

Ferris told us "The opening is end the end of January and I am in high production mode for that. I am having a taco truck and hopefully a tossed on the street Xmas tree installation to go along with some paintings. Plus my studiomate made some rad sleeping structures."

Here is a sampling of what Ferris does:

  • Residency Period: October 1, 2010 - January 31, 2011
  • Art Show: Friday, January 21 & Saturday, January, 22, 2011
