Escif: PanopticonJuxtapoz // Tuesday, 01 Jan 2013
The panopticon is a type of institutional building designed to allow a watchman to observe inmates of an institution without them being able to tell whether or not they are being watched. The architect for this design was Jeremy Bentham who described the panopticon as "a new mode of obtaining power of mind over mind, in a quantity hitherto without example." Here Spanish artist, Escif, applies the panopticon concept to the typical modern family activity of watching television together. Painted in his hometown of Valencia, Spain.
