Michael Reedy's Anatomical Illustrations

Erotica // Wednesday, January 22, 2014
Michael Reedy has created a beautifully grotesque series of anatomical figure drawings. His ability to use and omit color when needed shows his refined intuition for composure. Michael is technically schooled in anatomy and has been able to artistically render images we would normally see in a science textbook.

Don Brown's YOKO

Erotica // Wednesday, January 22, 2014
Don Brown is a UK sculptor currently based out of London. YOKO is one of Don's most recent projects. When he first began creating lifelike sculptures, Don used himself as the subject and eventually started to use his spouse as his muse. His figures are fifty to seventy-five percent smaller than the subject, which he says makes the observer intuitively feel protective over them. Don maticulously creates each pristine piece by hand, without the use of molds or any other aid.

Apollonia Saintclair's Vivid Black and Whites

Erotica // Wednesday, January 22, 2014
Apollonia Saintclair presents her audience something oh so relatable. In the cover piece entitled "Alone on New Year's Eve" her subject is nude and passed out with a bottle of champagne. Apollonia approaches her work in an honest way simply stating "Ink is my blood. I draw for my own sake and for your pleasure. A long-time resident of the Old World, I split my time between the kitchen and my studio."

The Work of Michel Mammi

Erotica // Tuesday, January 21, 2014
Michel Mammi is a comic artist, character designer and illustrator whose buxom deer-girls and sci-fi-femmes will certainly get your nerd juices flowing. Great usage of color and digital finishes on traditionally-drawn designs. Mammi is based in Scandiano, Italy.

The Art of Little Thunder

Erotica // Tuesday, January 21, 2014
Little Thunder is a comic artist from Hong Kong whose distinctly sweet-and-sultry style draws from comics, anime and pinup art. Little Thunder carries a big name in Hong Kong, despite her moniker, and recently had a very successful show in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong, as part of the release of her new art book. The book chronicles the progression of her work over ten years of illustrating; a hefty volume and huge accomplishment.

Matt Canosa's "Desnudas"

Erotica // Tuesday, January 21, 2014
Matt Canosa is a photographer and art director working in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His series of black and white photos entitled "Desnudas" take a simple concept into execution with stunning grace and sensitivity. These "nudes," shot from the stomach up, feature unclothed women each clutching a different flower. The nuances in pose and expression reveal a great intimacy, unique to each photo. These are lovely expressions of the female spirit.

Art, Sex and Octopi: An Interview with Zak Smith

Erotica // Tuesday, January 21, 2014
Zak Smith is a lot of things--artist, writer, porn star, firebrand--and everything he does rings with a consistent kind of brutal, carnal honesty. His graphic, grungy style of drawing is influenced by comic books and alternative porn, and he even completed a series of 100 drawings featuring women and octopi, Dream of the Fisherman's Wife-style. Smith also recently composed a set of tips for art critics, which I'd recommend to anyone who spends time looking at art, critics or not (or are you now?). Zak Smith received his BFA from Cooper Union and his MFA from Yale University (on a loan, long since paid off), and currently lives and works in LA.

Oh, American Apparel

Erotica // Friday, January 17, 2014
In the world of visual window displays, American Apparel has once again topped the news this week with something less than surprising from a brand that continues to push the boundaries of sexuality and eroticism. They are now going full frontal when it comes to the pubic hair of their mannequins. American Apparel's Ryan Holiday explains, "The display was created for that store specifically... American Apparel is a company that celebrates natural beauty, and New York's Lower East Side Valentine's Day window continues that celebration..."
