Embroidery on Vintage Photos by Maurizio AnzeriJuxtapoz // Thursday, 29 Dec 2011
We have always loved the way Dr Lakra takes found vintage photography or fashion magazine covers and applies his signature tattoo handstyle over the top. Today, we just saw the work of Italian artist, Maurizio Anzeri, who embroiders elaborate patterns upon found photography, and like Lakra, creates a beautiful combination of vintage and contemporary art style. And even though embroidery is not a contemporary art form by any means, the patterns that Anzeri uses are geometric with almost robotic-applied straight lines. The patterns also seem to provide a sort of protection for the vintage photos... maybe a form of preservation?
