David Hockney: "Me Draw on IPad" in Humlebaek, Denmark

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, 02 Aug 2011

Currently on exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebaek, Denmark is "Me Draw on IPad." The exhibition has several hundred of David Hockney's drawings that he has done with the Brushes application on his IPhone and more recently on his IPad. The works are displayed on 20 ITouches, 20 IPads, and a triptych slide show directed by Hockney specifically for the show.

For some of the drawings, the viewers can see the artist's process from start to finish with the help of the animation playback feature of the Brushes app. Through out the exhibition, Hockney will be occasionally sending new drawings via email to add to the collection. This new medium for drawing is a way for the artist to explore his craft. As stated in the museum's press release, "Hockney loves looking and drawing and has said that his current work in all media has allowed him to see and feel nature much more clearly. He draws to see, and he calls it self-deception if we assume we have seen all the dimensions of nature."
