Damián Ortega at Kurimanzutto in Mexico City

Juxtapoz // Monday, 28 Mar 2011

Perhaps we are attracted to art pieces titled ,"The Stranger," After all, Camus' classic novel is everyone's first taste of existential philosophy in literary form, even if the author called it absurdist. Where were we? Right, contemporary Mexican artist, Damián Ortega, opens a solo exhibition at Kurimanzutto in Mexico City on April 9, and he has created a trailer for his short, "The Stranger."

Ortega is widely considered to be one of the most important contemporary Mexican artists, working in architecture, video, photography, and sculpture. He has a major exhibition at the Boston ICA in late 2009, early 2010, titled Do It Yourself.

We like the vintage spaceman and lo-fi props. The video had sound in its original form, but seems the record industry didn't want it to have sound. Always more eerie without sound.
