Erika Lawlor Schmidt's collages combine textures, unusually framed yet familiar images, and ambiguous clippings to create seemingly organic but strangely outlandish forms, drawing from the surreal and building upon the amazingly accessibility of all sorts of imagery in the post-modern internet age. A bird's head emerges from an unidentifiable form composed of nearly unidentifiable cropped illustrations, but the nonsensical seems to fit just right in her surreal, two-dimensional plane.
