"Breaking the Noise with Silence": Escif in France

Juxtapoz // Monday, 17 Oct 2011

After his time in Norway for Nuart, Spanish artist Escif headed to Niort, France for the Le 4eme MUR festival. Escif painted this wall, what he called Breaking the Noise with Silence, and had Eric Surmont create a video to accompany the piece.

Escif says "They asked me to paint over a buffed wall (silence) that was usually painted with beautiful graffiti pieces (noise), so the idea came quickly. But to understand the incomprehensible sentence (noise) you have to search in the quiet reflection of the water (silence)."
