Back Talk with Richard ColmanJuxtapoz // Thursday, 09 Sep 2010
One reason you make art:
I don't really have a good answer for that, but I guess that's sort of why. I think the things that I make have a lot to do with the search for meaning in things and a sort of fascination with that process in art and every day life. I'm not really sure what it is exactly that drives me to make things, I just know that it is something I have to do. Sometimes my reason for making something is just that fact that I can't really think of a reason why I should be making it; I enjoy the pointlessness of it sometimes.
The last good movie you saw:
Three Days Of The Condor.
Something you’ve always wanted to do, but have yet to:
Go to Paris.
Favorite country or city visited:
A few words that sum up your philosophy on life:
I don't know.
Something you want the world to know about you:
As long as they're curious that's good enough for me.
Something that annoys or frustrates you about people:
I don't know, people confuse me.
Something that concerns you:
What to eat.
Artists you admire:
I just like that there are people out there making anything at all. I admire pretty much any one who makes something.
I over heard a woman on the street today say "All these people are crazy!"
The first record or CD you ever bought? The last album you downloaded?
Dancing On The Ceiling- Lionel Richie.
Rich Kid Blues- Marianne Faithfull.
Something you do when you’re procrastinating?
I stare out the window usually, but right now I'm answering these questions.
What is your most defining characteristic?
I couldn’t tell you, I think that's a better question for someone else.
What is your greatest fear?
That it's all pointless.
The moment you realized you were an ‘artist’:
I've always liked to make things.
Your greatest quality:
See number 13.
Something you wish you could change or alter about yourself:
I've always wished I was one of those people who can be comfortable in any situation. Most situations I find myself in make me uncomfortable.
What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken and was it worth it?
Getting out of bed this morning. I'm not sure yet.
Something you wish you had known five years ago:
All the scores for major sporting events.
What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years of your life?
I would like to be in a place where I feel content and happy with the way things are going.
