Yesterday morning, Juxtapoz attended the press preview and brunch to honor the opening of the grand ol' fair, Art Basel Miami Beach, the reason why many fairs have grown around Miami during the first week of December. Housing some of the most established galleries in the world (Lisson, Gagosian, Marlborough to name a few), we tried to make our experience the same as we do each year. Just get lost in it all...

If you have been, you know. Art Basel is HUGE. Like, you need two days huge. And that doesn't even mean you see it all. We almost walked by the fantastic Scott Campbell mummy of money at the Gmurzynska booth because it was tucked in the back. But you don't miss the Harings, the Os Gemeos, the Warhols that adorn a few booths, and Juxtapoz stalwarts like Kehinde Wiley and Barry McGee were well represented.

Standouts? Well, there were a few. Campbell for sure. David Shrigley and Jonas Wood had beautiful installation walls at Anton Kern, and Jon Pylpchuk's cigarette installation at Fredric Snitzer was a crowd-pleaser (seen above and below). Jaume Plensa at Richard Gray seemed to get many pictures.

The theme, as we saw it? Simplicity. At times, it felt like looking through a well-curate Pantone catalog. Very simple shapes, very minimal colors, very Ellsworth Kelly. All and all, not a bad way to waste 3-4 hours.

Art Basel is open December 6—9.
