Juxtapoz Turns 18 @ Copro Gallery: The Art

This past Saturday night in Santa Monica, Copro Gallery opened a special exhibition, Juxtapoz Turns 18, a retrospective and collection of artworks and artists who have helped shape our publication over nearly two decades. Hundreds upon hundreds of artists and gallery-goers made it out to the opening, enjoying a look at what has made the magazine a leading voice in underground and contemporary art for 20 years.

We love when one image leads us on a chase to find a full look at an artist's work. In this case, the particular image that had us immersed this morning was this painting by Bilbao, Spain based fine artist Joseba Eskubi, and it lead us to a great look of oil paintings from the artist. Part abstract with fleeting figurative elements, the paintings appear as mythical, historical moments.

That’s one viewpoint. Then there are zines that are actual pieces of art, each cover painted slightly different, bound by needle and thread.

Simon Jourdan: Chimères (NSFW)

Simon Jourdan is a freelance photographer based in Angers, France. In this series of images entitled "Chimères," Jourdan reveals the innate animalistic nature of the human body through the depiction of naked men and women in unsettling animal masks, creating surreal human-animal hybrids that blend seamlessly into their lush, earthly surroundings.
