Juxtapoz @ E3 2012: Small But Mighty Games

Juxtapoz // Friday, June 08, 2012
Xbox live arcade games have become some of my favorites to play during the last two years. The risks they are willing to take in both styling and gameplay is what sets them apart from the mainstream titles. Plus, their short, action packed, and creative levels make for a level of replayablity that is unmatched. Here are some of the highlights from this years offerings.

The Upside Down Helicopter Ceiling Fan

Juxtapoz // Friday, June 08, 2012
The fact that this fan had not been created already is shocking to us. What an idea, especially in a child's room. Not only can you have an upside down helicopter on your ceiling, but you can simulate a crash if you don't put it up correctly. We kid. It features four carbon fiber blades fixed with a 3-speed remote-controlled motor. Not for sale as of yet... but soon we are being told.

Light Paintings by Simon Berger

Juxtapoz // Friday, June 08, 2012
In order to fully understand what light painting is, because, I don't know, I think it needed a definition, I went to Wikipedia and found this: "Light painting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source or by moving the camera." Knowing this, Simon Berger has created a fantastic series of light paintings made to appear as if light was raining on the figure in the photos.

Ericailcane Mural in Modena, Italy

Juxtapoz // Friday, June 08, 2012
Italian street muralist, Ericailcane, recently painted what looks to us like a rugged hamster holding on tight to some gold coinage in the city of Modena. Why he has a noose around his neck is a mystery?

The Work of David V. D'Andrea

Juxtapoz // Friday, June 08, 2012
'Illustrator David V. D'Andrea’s work is iconic, dark, intricate, and beautiful. His illustrations seethe with sinuous, accomplished line work and intentional rough edges. He draws from a variety of themes – the shelves of his small studio are crammed with dusty books: almanacs, type specimens, crumbling encyclopedias, and other esoteric visual references, all looking as if they had been rescued from a medieval basement.'

Juxtapoz @ E3: Into the Pixel 2012

Juxtapoz // Thursday, June 07, 2012
One of best parts of getting into these types of events for me is the behind the scenes art you get access to. Into the Pixel is the only traveling art show I have found which exposes the general public to the countless hours of concept art that goes into the video games they love. The time and effort the artists put into the games is truly under appreciated . . .
