Smithosonian Magazine has annoounced finalists for their 10th Annual Photo Contest. Chosen from 37,600 submissions from 112 countries, to 50 finalists were chosen for 5 categories. 

Giant Charred Matchstick Faces by Wolfgang Stiller

German artist Wolfgang Stiller created an installation of giant matchsticks featuring charred faces sculpted on to the end. Using pieces of lumber and head molds, the artist fabricated the pieces to seem as though the faces emerged after the match was struck and burned-out. 

A Chair made Beach Debris by Studio Swine

London/São Paulo-based Studio Swine made a chair entirely from plastic recovered on the beach. The Sea Chair is created using a device that plucks plastic from debris and sorts it by color and then melts it for the various elements of the chair.

  Garage Magazine and French fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier had a great idea. Using masks of Cindy Sherman's face created by thatsmyface.com, Demarchelier had his models wear the super-realistic facemasks for his photo-shoot.

Teenage Machine Age, Ryan Heshka’s second solo show at Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea (Milan, Italy), picks up where last year's show (”OURS”) left off.  Expanding both the size of the pieces and mediums used, Heshka continues his exploration of dreamy scenes and hazy fictional memories, mixing in vague hints of universal themes.

Geoff McFetridge x Bushmills Irish Whiskey Decanter

Bushmills Irish Whiskey has collaborated with artist Geoff McFetridge on a decanter inspired by their original 400 year-old Whiskey bottle design. Using glass hand-blown by Esque Studio the McFetridge and Bushmills have produced a limited edition of 75, available for $600.
