Johanna Goodman's series of shockingly colorful celebrity portraits capture the personality and dynamism of these entertainment mastheads with accuracy and flair. Using oil pastels, Goodman fleshes out the visages of these faces we have become so familiar with, stratifying them by bump, ridge and recess. Goodman is an illustrator who calls her work "award-winning, bleeding edge, shockingly new, tantalizingly fresh" and "classically classy." She has worked for Rollign Stone, The New Yorker, Spin, Esquire, Sports Illustrated, Playboy and many more.

Cecily Brown's "Untitled" (2012), now on display in the Gagosian Gallery, examines the subject of the nude ensemble, drawing at the same time from history painting and pop culture. In fleshy yet chromatically sober color pairings, Brown creates clusters of diverse and invidiuated nudes that begin to crowd the painted scene as if from some unnamed purgatory. Fragmented figures and faces dissolve into kaleidoscopic concentrations of grey, purple and sienna. These paintings play out Brown's persistent fascination with the tension between bold painterly gesture and figurative content.

The pairing of Moneyless’s geometric minimalist designs, with Mark Lyken’s abstract color fields is a winning combination. The two recently collaborated on a wall in Hackney, London for “The Canals Project.” The project will bring a number of artists to created art along the East London’s canal system with notable names confirmed such as Interesni Kazki, Remed, and Ekta.

Alaina Varrone is arguably the ballsiest embroidery artist out there. She embroiders striking scenes and images that are often explicit in nature, creating a wonderfully weird contrast between a traditionally inoffensive medium and its content. Born in New Haven, Connecticut "to a family of weirdos and storytellers," Varrone says she "uses this natural creativity to tell her own stories in thread." Varrone attended MICA as a fiber arts student and is currently working on a series based on the various gang girls of mythology.

Rich Kelly makes poster art that is at once wildly fresh and inarguably sophisticated. He creates single images that express the attitude and atmosphere of a film or musical group with skill and flourish, utilizing an astounding sense for angle, proportion and perspective to generate off-kilter compositions that could draw you in for hours. Kelly's earthy, controlled palette allows him to place emphasis on the figures and their dynamic interactions, giving these movie/band posters a life of their own outside the realm of the original works. You might not even want to bother seeing the movies, just spend the day gorging your eyes on these posters!

The two-person exhibition Butcher’s Hook featuring the work of Jesse Hazelip and Jon Todd opens tonight, June 8, 2013 at Yves Laroche in Montreal, Quebec. Todd will be showing new expressionistic-like portrait paintings, while Hazelip’s work is ballpoint pen drawings and mixed media. Each have a very different esthetic but both share a common ground in focusing on suppressed and marginalized members of society.

It's no secret that the Juxtapoz office is a big fan of Madlib. In fact, we may or may not be attending his Welcome to Zamrock show tonight in San Francisco... As it's rare to see an interview with the man and he has gotten us excited about the prospect of new Quasimoto, Madvillain, and J Dilla has an unreleased Jazz album? We thought we would post this video by Tom Stokes of Madlib, aka Quasimoto, aka Beat Konducta, aka DJ Lord Such, aka.... at the Medicine Show in London!
