INeedAGuide put us onto the works of Abbey Watkins this morning, a really great mixture of Native American inspired illustrations and the multiplicity of personality. We focused on her Confuse the Spirit series, but we also wanted to show other sketches and completed works of the Manchester, UK based artist.

Sort of a random find on our Friday morning, but hey, end of the week fun is what we are up to today. So we ran into this series of Gore Helmets by Josh Ln, taking iconic pop-culture and movie characters who wear helmets and masks and applied a nice shade of gore to them. 

The Awakening Sculpture in Washington, DC by J. Seward Johnson

We are in a Washington, DC mood this week, obviously, and perhaps the locales there knew about J. Seward Johnson's amazing The Awakening sculpture, but we just learned of it. The 70 foot sculpture has been around since 1980, and was selected for the International Sculpture Conference Exhibition. The piece is made of aluminum, with much buried under the surface.Of course, the parts that are visible make the piece that much more dramatic.

Freelance graphic designer, illustrator, and sometimes confectioner Marie Gosselin's color pencil drawings unfold as vibrant maps to the fantastical lands of her imagination. Her beautiful dreamscapes take you back to a time of childlike wonder, a world of candy-colored volcanos and purple tigers you can easily get lost in. Gosselin lives in a bakery with her cat Puduc. A graduate of LISAA (Paris) and Saint Luc (Tournai, Belgium), she is currently studying at Gobelins in Paris.

This Friday, November 9, Thomas Campbell will be having both a signing/release and exhibition surrounding his new surf photography book, Slide Your Brains Out, at Mollusk Surf Shop in San Francisco. Tommy Guerrero and Ray Barbee will be playing live, the book looks amazing as it features Campbell's surf shots from 1997—2012, and Mollusk is an SF staple. Go.
