A nice thing to wake up to in the morning, some good looks from digital and fine artist, Phillippines-based Januz Miralles. Through photo manipulation and photography, Miralles creates a handmade texture to an otherwise digital surface, allowing both to coexist. This a selection of works from 2012.

F1 Suspended by Paul Veroude

Dutch artist Paul Veroude has made it very easy for you to find out what's inside one of these speedy vehicles. Using a Mercedes GP Petronas F1, driven by renowned race car driver Michael Schumacher, the artist deconstructed the 2010 model and suspended each piece, right down to the nuts and bolts.

French muralists, Lilwenn and Bom. K of the DMV crew, combined efforts in painting an array of images resembling two heads. The mural was painted on the side of a building in East London.

A great use of graphite from artist Linda Huber. From the artist: I started work on this 2 foot drawing 1-3-11 and finished on 1-26-11. The reference was small but very clear so I was able to work from it. I used a 2 inch grid, have to say working on such a large drawing can be difficult so that grid was a huge help. Since the David statue is made out of solid marble I needed to visualize the smoothness, the slight imperfections, the veins...

In L.A.: Jim Drain @ Prism Gallery

Last week, we attended the opening of Jim Drain's Drain Expressions exhibition at Prism Gallery in Los Angeles. The show "proposes a level of visual fecundity that has long been present in the artist's work - elaborate woven compositions, deconstructed paintings, immersive wall patterns, wall-mounted sculptures and gently satirical promotional posters are drawn together in the artist's first major exhibition in Los Angeles in 8 years."

Book Review: "Forever The New Tattoo"

In deliberating if tattoos and tattooists can present themselves as art and artists, Forever: The New Tattoo brings new language and thought to the often stigmatized reputation of tattoo culture. Matt Lodder explains in the foreword, "Tattoos cannot obviously be bought, sold, and traded like paintings because they are painful, bloody, and laborious to acquire." Lodder, a tattoo owner and historian, takes contemporary developments in tattooing and places them into historical contexts.

Featured in our very first Juxtapoz in 1994, and cover artist of August 2010, Mexico-based artist Dr. Lakra has a show currently on display in Copenhagen, Denmark at Nils Stærk. Featuring his signature tattoo influenced fine art, with a mixture of collage, flash, and paintings, Lakra's work will be on display through December 15, 2012.
