Andres Guzman's Grimy Lines

Andres Guzman's illustrations are grimy, graphic and endlessly fun to look at. Guzman spent most of his youth in Denver, Colorado but is originally from Lima, Peru. Guzman studied illustration at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Guzman calls himself a "creature of the night," and enjoys "eating large quantities of food whenever possible." Guzman translates the world around him into dynamic, raging forms of line and color, drawing influences from graffiti, cartoons and cinema.

ARYZ will be opening a new solo show, Style Is The Limit, at FIFTY24SF Gallery in San Francisco next week, April 19, and we got a few teaser shots from the gallery of the Spanish artist's studio space. The January 2013 cover artist has much anticipation with this show, a lot of the attention focused on the rare occasion the young artist has shown in a gallery setting. More to come...

Our friend Henrik Haven stopped by the new Clare Rojas exhibition at Galleri Nicolai Wallner in Copenhagen this past weekend. As we have seen in a past exhibition at PRISM in Los Angeles, the San Francisco-based artist has moved away from her more figurative folk works into more abstract, minimalist explorations in color and shape.

Incredible Anamorphic Portrait Composed of an Entire Room of Objects

French artist Bernard Pras's latest installation is a portrait of Malian actor Sotigui Kouyate. It is anamorphic, meaning it is an illusion that can only be viewed from a specific vantage point. Pras used clothes, paint, wood, rubber, and other objects to fill the entire room and the portrait is only clearly visible through the lens of his camera.

Incredible Wood Carvings by Sculptors Aron Demetz and Shan Hur

A collaboration between Italian sculptor Aron Demetz and Korean sculptor Shan Hur has produced a fascinating series of pieces entitled, The Tainted. The two artists were able to explore the human figure and by contrasting both smoothly and harsh surfaces with incredible skill.

We are enjoying the work of Brooklyn-based artist Matt Leines this morning. Matt earned his BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design and often depicts fantasy worlds inhabited by strange beasts, living architecture and colorful lines and patterns. He opens his show Hypebolic at Beginnnings, Brooklyn on April 11th.

Huang Yan Paints Song Dynasty Landscapes on the Human Body

In his latest series, Chinese Landscapes, Beijing-based artist Huang Yan emulated traditional painting styles from the Song Dynasty on the human body. By using the human body as a canvas, Huang has reinterpreted a traditional practice and reinforced 'Taoist concepts that imply a sense of harmony between man and his environment.'
