Mike Shine: "Flotsam's Harvest", Act 5...

On March 16th, 2013, Mike Shine (cover artist of the March 2013 issue) will open Flotsam's Harvest at White Walls in San Francisco. As we get closer to the opening this weekend, we have been showing you the hints and riddles that Shine has been dropping from Dr Flotsam, the mysterious character that has given Shine the gift of knowing and presenting the riddle of the Harvest. Today, we look at Act 5.

Ariel Wilson Collaborates with Oak Grove Center for Education

San Diego-based artist and designer Ariel Wilson worked with Oak Grove Center for Education in Murrieta, CA to create a less institutional environment that would foster creative growth providing a space for both team-building skills as well as individual personal development through activities ranging from sports to art making.

16mm Film Quilts by Sabrina Gschwandtner

  New York-based visual artist and writer Sabrina Gschwandtner has taken recently de-accessioned 16 mm film of early Feminist documentaries from the Fashion Institute of Technology and sewn them together with her own personal film footage, mimicking popular American quilt motifs such as log cabin squares, octagonal stars, and 'string quilts.'

Directed by Roxy Farhat and Kakan Hermansson, A Tooth for an Eye is the latest music video from the Swedish electronic duo The Knife. Known for their visually stunning live shows and collaborations with artists and directors, the new video is a pleasure to watch.   

"Black Hole," Photos of Paint Spinning by Fabian Oefner

Swiss photographer Fabian Oefner has created some truly awesome high-speed shots of paint being spun by centripetal force. Placing the paint on a rod attached to a drill, the artist used a sensor to trigger flashes as short as 1/40000 of a second and snap a picture only a millisecond later after it was turned on.

This morning we take a look at the work of New Orleans-based artist Michael Pajon. All of his collages are cut by hand from materials ranging from the 1880's - 1950's. He uses the artifacts that people have left behind and attempts to find a relationship between the things he has cut from old playing cards, prescription labels, postcards, matchbooks, and magazines.

We are enjoying the work of Brussels-based artist Thomas Lerooy and his creative, fun and inspiring range of sculptures and drawings. 'I don't like weight; literally and figuratively,' says Thomas. "I've always been uncomfortable owning things. I see beauty in the fact that everything is transient and might disappear.'

For Juxtapoz, we were lucky enough to partner with Los Angeles-based fine artist, Sage Vaughn, and Converse, to collaborate on a special public art project on East 6th Street in Austin.
