Juxtapoz // Wednesday, April 02, 2014
If you have been following Swoon on Instagram, or followed any of her friends, you know that there is a massive installation being built at the Brooklyn Museum for Swoon's "Submerged Motherlands" exhibition. From the looks of it, the show is going to be amazing, and when it opens on April 11, it will be continual evidence that Swoon's work is some of the most unifying and engaging being made in contemporary art today.

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, April 02, 2014
Greenpoint Terminal Gallery in Brooklyn has had a string of great artists show in their space over the past year, including last month's standout show with Matt Leines that we wrote about last week before its closing. This Friday, April 4, the gallery welcomes Brian Willmont and a series of new works titled "Dark Light." When we received the press release, it was accompanied by a quote from Cormac McCarthy. After feeling the coldness from that, we began to look forward to the show.

"I met Kevin at a skate ramp in the summer of 1985. I think he was 12. He was really small, but already very good on a skateboard. I noticed right away he was talented, but even more, so focused and determined, driven to progress. Every time I skated with Kevin he had natural talent, style, courage, and creativity...

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, April 02, 2014
I don't know what influenced me more, Russian miniatures, Soviet children's books, Hebrew manuscripts, Indian paintings, or Japanese prints. They all created a crazy image library in my head. Since I like to draw on old books, memos, and letters, people often ask me if there is a connection between my drawings and the meaning of the texts...

The Legendary Mati Klarwein

Erotica // Tuesday, April 01, 2014
Mati Klarwein is often considered "the man literally responsible for every great, legendary record cover you've ever seen--if he didn't do it, he inspired it." The masthead of the psychedelic visual revolution, Klarwein's aesthetic is a beast of its own and its reverberations can be seen in a staggering amount of contemporary illustration, especially artwork made for music. These wild, expressive images harness an erotic power of their own, fueled by the iconically free-flowing sexuality of the era.
