Brooklyn-based Japanese artist Hiro Kurata infuses his brightly colored works with both these cultures he calls home. Kurata’s figures are strong yet innocent, but filled with emotion. Hiro Kurata is also participating in our Big Payback Auction.
“My memory of a legendary baseball game: Right fielder was number 8, next batter on the on-deck circle, catcher must eat fat, a shortshop who originally played for the Japanese Ninjas, Topps baseball card packed with dried pink gum inside, Andre Dawson and Ryne Sandberg, King Sadaharu, and a Japanese sword. In one’s life there is a moment when you just have to hit a home run.”
